Bamboo Workshop

Beppu city in Oita prefecture is famous for bamboo and bamboo products. You will use this high-quality bamboo while working with a professional bamboo craftsman during the craft lesson. You can craft items such as chopsticks and flower vases using Beppu’s famous bamboo!

Laser Processing Machine Workshop

The Japanese crafting machinery used in the workshop are of an extremely high-quality and known for their precision. Using a specialized FABOOL laser, you can engrave your favorite letters, shapes, or designs into bamboo, leather, or wood. To do this, you can use the computer in the workshop to input the design, letters, or shapes you want to use. You can engrave your name using Japanese kanji, hiragana, or katakana.

The material costs are not included in the lesson and must be paid for separately. We can engrave items that you bring if they are made of wood or leather such as a wooden smartphone case or a leather bag.

Knife & Whetstone

Long ago in Japan, ninjas and samurai used beautifully forged knives and swords. It is important when making sushi or other Japanese food to keep your knives sharp. At our shop, you can use a real Japanese whetstone to sharpen a handmade blade that was crafted by a Japanese blacksmith and afterwards, you can buy it and take it home.

Dye Workshop

From ancient Japan until now, beautiful indigo dyes called Aizome have been used. As part of Synapse’s crafts workshop, natural Japanese dyes, known as ‘Miyako Dyeing’ are used. You can experience a dyeing workshop. You can dye your own cloth, handkerchief, wood, bamboo, and a variety of materials.
